Substrate preparation

A solid, grease-free, dry substrate that has been thoroughly cleaned of dirt and dust deposits is essential for durability. In swimming pools, the outer walls must be well insulated against ground moisture and groundwater. Missing or poor insulation is usually the cause of blistering and flaking paint.

Existing GRP pools must be free of damage and watertight. Minor damage can be repaired with 415 2K-PE fiber filler. The pool must be cleaned with Jaeger Special Cleaner 80 and rinsed with clear water before painting.
Sand the surfaces thoroughly with 80-180 grit sandpaper and remove any dust before coating. Concrete must be well set before painting, i.e., it should be at least 4-6 weeks old. Concrete must not be smoothed with a steel trowel, but should be rubbed with a felt pad to achieve a non-slip surface. Cement paste and sintered layers must be removed by sandblasting. For iron surfaces in swimming pools, such as entry ladders, we recommend priming the surface twice with Kronalit 819 on a well-derusted, sound substrate (sandblast if necessary).

Filling

For repairs to the GRP pool, use 415 2K PE fiber filler, then sand well.

Coating structure

Stir the material well before use, mix both components homogeneously by machine, and transfer to another container!

Observe the pot life of 3 hours (20°C).

GRP

Apply 2–3 coats of 786 GRP pool paint with a roller or spray. If necessary, dilute with up to 10% special thinner 97.

Apply 1 coat of 787 2K pool sealant with a roller or spray.

Concrete

For salt water, apply three coats of 786 pool paint and two coats of 787 pool sealant.

For chlorinated water, prime with 864 special primer resin, apply two coats of 786 pool paint and two coats of 787 pool sealant.

Recoatability

Can be recoated after 12 hours in dry weather, otherwise longer.

Touch-up work (old swimming pools)

Refurbishment coats require particularly thorough cleaning of the substrate to remove algae, dirt, and deposits. Thoroughly remove lime deposits and algae growth with commercially available descalers. Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water! Greasy deposits can be cleaned with Jaeger Special Cleaner 80. Remove poorly adhering paint.

Care and winter storage of swimming pools

Grease marks can be removed with alkaline cleaning agents, limescale deposits with descaler; rinse thoroughly with water! Large pools should preferably be filled for winter storage, using straw, brushwood, or reeds to protect the pool walls from ice pressure. In severe frost, the ice cover should be sawn open along the edge of the pool at regular intervals to a sufficient width. Small pools are best stored empty.

Processing conditions

During the entire processing and drying time, the material, substrate, and air temperature must not fall below 8°C or exceed 30°C. Do not process in direct sunlight, as this can cause the coating film to dry quickly and form bubbles. The air humidity should be between 30% RH and 75% RH during the entire time.

Note: Accidents caused by slipping in walk-through pools, paddling pools, on steps, etc. can be avoided by sprinkling dry quartz sand (0.1–0.4 mm) into the first coat.
